About Us

Family has always been at the heart of JM&CO

JM&CO History

John started as a sole trader in 1983 offering General Refurbishment Services. As demand increased, John employed a small team of Plumbers and Gas Engineers, and in 1995 with wife Suzanne running the office, John Murphy and Company Ltd was formed.

JM&CO's reputation grew organically through word of mouth and we became trusted by an increasing number of local authorities and schools. Following a decade of successful business and steady growth, John Murphy and Company expanded to employ a wider range of skilled tradesmen. Family has always been at the heart of JM&CO; over the years we've employed a number of brothers, fathers, sons and daughters. We're also proud to have trained a number of apprentices through our in-house training programme.

In 2022 John and Suzanne handed over the day to day running of the business to their daughter Amy, and close friend Paul. Determined never to fully retire, John continues to remain an integral part of the business providing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team.

Today we provide building maintenance to over 60 schools. Our clients also include leisure centres, hotels, housing associations, care homes, retail units, office blocks, warehouses, distribution centres and commercial kitchens.

Standards are important to us

That's why we're ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management certified. Our Quality and Environmental Integrated Management System ensures we are committed to delivering quality, driving continuous improvement and enhancing our environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste. In addition to our internal auditing process, our Quality and Environmental Management system is audited annually by Alcumus ISOQAR - A UKAS accredited certification body.

At JM&CO, we take pride in being a family-run business that’s large enough to manage all your building service needs, yet small enough to truly care. Our personal, hands on approach ensures every client receives attentive, tailored service from start to finish.

Our core team includes 15 dedicated employees, supported by a flexible network of 10 to 25 skilled tradespeople spanning a wide range of disciplines. We deliver a comprehensive suite of services including gas, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, roofing, flooring, HVAC systems, fire safety, CCTV, access control, washroom refurbishments, structural works, and more.

Quality and compliance sit at the heart of everything we do. Our in house CDM Principal Designer ensures full compliance with current Construction (Design and Management) Regulations. Every member of our team completes mandatory health and safety training including asbestos awareness and manual handling, and all operatives undergo enhanced DBS checks, registered with the DBS Update Service for real time safeguarding assurance.

Family values, skilled workmanship, and reliable service are the foundation of our business - and always will be.

We like to give back

Always keen to give back to the community that has supported our business over the years, we sponsor local events and charitable causes especially those that our clients or members of our team are directly involved in.

We have been a proud sponsor of The Dash Charity for a number of years.

https://thedashcharity.org.uk/

The Dash Charity is Slough based, providing specialist support to adults and children experiencing mental health issues, modern slavery, immigration, trafficking, homelessness and complex needs associated with Domestic Abuse, empowering them to live a life beyond crisis and ensuring their voices are heard.

They help victims access free legal help, obtain injunctions, arrange for them to have screens and video-links if giving evidence at court and will support them on the day. The Dash Charity also speak up for them and advocate on their behalf with housing teams, police, social care. They provide safety devices to help them feel safer in their own home and help source donations of anything they need to make their life a little easier or a little brighter whilst they are trying to stay safe. Their programmes help women, children and men recognise tactics of abuse, so they can feel more empowered and break the cycle of abuse.
